2 Chainz has connected two different corners of hip-hop on his new single “Reign,” teaming with producer Statik Selektah, Cash Cobain and Young Nudy for an unexpected Atlanta-meets-New York collaboration.
Released September 4 through Million Dollar Habits/EMPIRE, “Reign” pairs 2 Chainz and Young Nudy’s Atlanta roots with Cash Cobain’s newer New York sound and Statik Selektah’s sample-driven production.
The result is a cross-generational record that brings together artists who normally occupy very different corners of rap.
Statik Selektah Builds “Reign” Around a Soul Classic
At the center of “Reign” is Statik Selektah.
The veteran producer builds the track around 21st Century’s “Remember the Rain,” using the recognizable soul sample as the foundation for a slower, nostalgic backdrop.
It’s an interesting production choice considering the artists involved.
Statik has spent decades working within the traditional East Coast and boom-bap world, while Cash Cobain has become closely associated with New York’s newer “sexy drill” movement.
Instead of forcing either artist completely into the other’s territory, “Reign” finds a middle ground.
The soulful loop gives Statik’s production a classic quality while leaving enough space for Cash Cobain’s melodic approach and the relaxed Atlanta deliveries of 2 Chainz and Young Nudy.
Cash Cobain Brings New York’s New Generation
For East Coast listeners, Cash Cobain’s involvement is one of the most interesting elements of the collaboration.
The Bronx-born rapper and producer handles the hook, injecting the record with the sound that has helped make him one of the recognizable figures in New York’s current rap generation.
His presence also creates an interesting contrast with Statik Selektah.
Statik represents a production tradition deeply connected to classic New York hip-hop, while Cash represents a generation that has been reshaping what New York rap can sound like.
Putting both on the same record effectively connects two different periods of the city’s hip-hop evolution.
Atlanta Meets New York
Young Nudy adds another dimension to the collaboration.
Known for his laid-back and unconventional delivery, Nudy brings a second Atlanta voice to the track alongside 2 Chainz. Cash Cobain represents New York’s newer movement, while Statik Selektah provides the East Coast production foundation.
That makes “Reign” less about one regional sound and more about what happens when those scenes overlap.
New York and Atlanta have been two of the most influential cities in hip-hop’s history, but their dominant sounds have often been very different.
“Reign” puts those differences on the same record.
2 Chainz and Statik Selektah Continue Their Partnership
The single also isn’t the first time 2 Chainz and Statik Selektah have worked together this year.
The pair previously released “Pops” in April 2026, establishing a partnership that paired 2 Chainz’s Southern personality with Statik’s production. “Reign” now expands that formula by bringing Cash Cobain and Young Nudy into the mix.
For 2 Chainz, it’s another example of his ability to move between generations.
More than a decade after becoming one of Atlanta’s biggest mainstream rap personalities, he continues to collaborate with younger artists without completely abandoning the style that made him successful.
On “Reign,” his veteran presence becomes the connecting point between everyone involved.
“Reign” Gets an Official Video
The release also arrives with an official music video, giving the collaboration a full visual treatment rather than positioning it as simply another streaming single.
The official video is available through 2ChainzVEVO on YouTube.
That makes the record particularly useful for hip-hop publications covering new releases, as listeners can immediately hear the collaboration and see all three rappers together.
Different Generations, Different Cities, One Record
“Reign” works because the lineup doesn’t immediately look obvious on paper.
2 Chainz brings veteran Atlanta charisma. Young Nudy represents another generation of the city’s trap scene. Cash Cobain brings the sound of contemporary New York, while Statik Selektah connects everything through production rooted in hip-hop’s sample-driven tradition.
That combination turns the record into more than another 2 Chainz release.
For East Coast hip-hop, it’s particularly interesting to hear Statik Selektah’s classic production instincts and Cash Cobain’s newer New York approach existing on the same track.
“Reign” shows that the distance between different generations — and different regional sounds — can become much smaller once the right record brings them together.
