The Bronx superstar addressed the constant demands for new music during an X Spaces conversation on August 11, opening up about her current relationship with the studio, her family life and the expectations that come with being one of the biggest names in hip-hop.

Rather than responding to the criticism by promising to work harder or release music more frequently, Cardi explained that the pressure has had the opposite effect on her.

The rapper said the constant complaints from fans can make her want to take a step back and enjoy her life instead of feeling like she has to be in the studio every day. For Cardi, the conversation appears to be less about whether she still wants to make music and more about having control over when she makes it.

In other words, Cardi isn’t stepping back because audiences have stopped responding to her music.

Her latest release performed strongly, demonstrating that she can return after a period away and still command attention.

That makes her decision to slow down particularly interesting.

There is a unique level of expectation surrounding Cardi B.
